As the stereotype goes, college students only care about drinking, sex, and their grades (sometimes in that order). Especially for the more A-type socialites, the weekends were especially built for miller time and a healthy interest in the opposite sex. Since the 1980s, businesses have taken quite a liking to the college niche, but few companies have entertained them so well as Comedy Central and MTV. However, as the Internet world expanded, and more college students stepped away from the boob tube, many expect the world of YouTube, Myspace, and others to fill their entertainment needs. To recapture what college students really care about, entrepreneurial college students stepped in to satiate their fellow peers. Appealing to a dual desire to see scantily clad women and to judge them on their hotness, College Mansion was started up.
College Mansion, a possible play on words to the Playboy Mansion, is raising some eyebrows. The basic premise behind CollegeMansion is to find and display the hottest ladies on campus. It was started by two college graduates, Brian Novitsky and David Luber, who in 2006 also started the successful CollegeSlogans.com. Understanding the male mind well, Novitsky and Luber created a visual treat of sorts for all those with the opposite sex in mind. There is no doubt that, except for potential college models out there, CollegeMansion is primarily a man thing (if women in bikinis at every corner of the site doesn't tell you that, I don't know what will).
The only way that young female student models can show themselves on College Mansion is by registering, submitting a profile and a picture. It's no surprise from judging the site superficially that these models have to meet a standard and make the cut to get featured. Once they do though, they can take part in being featured in several different fun competitions. One competition that is based on votes from viewers and that seems to be ongoing is the 'top 100 hottest college girls'. The voting system is not complicated like the 10 point scale system of HotOrNot; one viewer votes once and these votes are meant to emphasize the democratic nature of the top 100 hottest girls. Another compteition is called 'Mansion Madness' where one or several lucky ladies out of many win the prestige of being the top hottest university ladies on the site. Last season's winner was Alicia D'alessandro who was crowned Miss Mansion in Spring, 2008. For all those men or women who like looking at these young ladies but also enjoy poker or other card games, CollegeMansion sells decks of cards with 52 scantily clad females on them. As they say on their site: “No hand is really a bad hand.”
It is easy to get inside the heart, mind, or libido of the college student, but unlike College Mansion, College Candy takes away the visuals of scantily clad women and replaces them with articles. These articles are meant to talk about what college students usually enjoy talking about: sex, booze, complaining about exams, technology, their boyfriend, their girlfriend, getting by on the cheap, and sex. The articles are a step up from CollegeMansion. CollegeCandy plays well to the college community because it aims to capture the woes, issues, and challenges of the typical college aged kid. No matter if you are a young, poor, virgin freshman in Florida or that 6th year general studies baller in Tennessee, you are going to find some issue you can relate to on College Candy. Choosing between the sites comes down to what the college student want the most: the visual or the textual.
